The Wenatchee River Salmon Festival and Ohme Gardens is teaming up to offer a “Salmon Chanted Evening” on Tuesday, August 5th, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The gala, which will benefit the educational programs that Salmon Fest is famous for, will feature delicious smoked salmon, light hors d’oeuvres, local wines and live music with Beau Van Winkle. Tickets are just $25.00 and are available at Ohme Gardens, Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery and Wenatchee Parks and Recreation. For further information, call 509-548-6662 or log onto salmonfest.org. Speaking of salmon, the Entiat River is open to summer-run salmon fishing on August 1st. Anglers enjoyed a great spring salmon fishery on the Entiat and now the river is open to summer-runs until the end of the month. Also on the salmon fishing front, we are still waiting for sufficient numbers of sockeye to pass over the dam in the Tumwater to allow for a fishing season on Lake Wenatchee. The numbers are getting close, but not quite there. If the fish continue to return at current numbers a season is likely, but not assured. It’s a day to day deal right now. Hopes are high a surge of fish will show up and this popular fishery will open.
