Summer-run salmon fishing kicks off for the season that runs through mid-October this week, and you can bet that it will be keeping anglers very busy, for at least the first couple of months. This is a tough one on anglers. It means very early mornings for some, long afternoons in the hot sun for others. For some people they will be doing both for as long as they can hold up. It’s pretty exciting stuff really. The chance of doing battle with king salmon that can weigh over 30 pounds, without traveling over to the coast and dealing with ocean conditions is pretty special. Others will travel north to Canada and Alaska and endure certain hardships and terrific expense to do what we’re able to accomplish virtually at our door step. Added to the fun is that the river is full of familiar faces during the summer-run season. There is a community of local angler who all know each other out on the water. There is a bond of common courtesy among the locals who know how to conduct themselves on the launch ramp as wells as on the water that contributes to the joy if fishing for summer-runs in our region.
