I mentioned in my last report that the fishing for spring salmon on the Icicle River in Leavenworth was really hitting its stride, and I got a chance to try it. Shane Magnuson was right. I jumped on board with him to join Chad Taffar for an afternoon float, and it was a blast. I met them at the take out at 2:15 and headed for the launch. We weren’t more than 20 yards below the launch when Chad got his first fish. Chad got another one a bit further down stream, and then I got one and missed on above the Strom Hole. We were back at the take out by 5:30! We got two of the three fish on M2 Flatfish, behind a diver, and the other was on a whole herring. I missed a good hit on a Flatfish, too. The river is running high and fast, but it is full of fish. The spring salmon fishing on the Icicle should continue to be very good, in spite of these conditions, right up until the Columbia River opens for summer-run salmon on July 1st. I should also mention that white water rafters are having a ball on the Wenatchee right now.
