I want to remind folks that the 3rd Annual Columbia Basin Kids Trout Derby is coming up on Saturday, April 16th, and will be held at Connelly Park. The event is made possible by the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District, and is sponsored by Pepsi. The event is free, but families must pre-register, so we can plan on how many kids we will have there on Saturday. Listen to the local radio stations and look for the inserts in the Columbia Basin Herald to learn how to register. Families should bring their own fishing gear, and there will be folks there to help out with the fishing and bait will be available. When families arrive there will be a variety of educational and just plain fun activities they can participate in, and they will be able to catch a couple of the trout planted in the launch bay at the park. There will be prizes awarded for the biggest fish caught during the fishing sessions. Thanks to Pepsi and other area sponsors, there will be hot dogs and soft drinks provided. This is the first of several kids fishing events that I am involved with each year, and this is a great one. Make sure you don’t miss it.
