By Dave Graybill

Now I am really ready to wade the small streams in our region. I have been meaning to pick up a pair of shin guards for years. Every season I scrape my lower legs either by slipping on the rocks or pushing through the brush, and I finally actually did it. I can now slosh around with confidence that I am protected from the painful bang of a sharp rock. I am going to put them to heavy use, too. The conditions are perfect on the Icicle near Leavenworth. I plan to spend as many afternoons and evenings on the river as possible. I did just that recently and had a blast. I arrived to my parking spot above the Jonny Creek Campground at 6 p.m. and got back to my rig at 7:30. In that short time I caught at least 30 little rainbow on the Icicle. Some were big for this stream, too, at least 11 inches. I was using the same Stimulator that I tied on while fishing the Entiat and the small trout loved it. I would recommend this to anyone that has had a desire to learn to fly fish. The casts are short and you will have immediate success.
