By Dave Graybill

The weather on the opening weekend was chilly on Saturday and sunny on Sunday, but fishing was good everywhere I went. I visited 12 different lakes in three different counties and even the Colville Reservation and found happy anglers with good catchers of rainbow on their stringers. There was a low turnout at the lakes in the Wenatchee Heights due to the cold weather but Black and Lilly lakes produced big fish. The best catch ratio for anglers came from Conconully Lake. There weren’t any really big fish here but the success rate was tremendous. Conconully Reservoir was also very good and trout to 17 inches were being caught at Alta Lake. All in all, anglers who visited Okanogan County once again really had a great time. Blue Lake, near Soap Lake, was producing consistent catches of 14- to 15 inch rainbow as it does year after year. I am very eager to get to Buffalo Lake on Colville Reservation. Mike Hall, who runs the resort there, showed me a photo of a rainbow that weighed 11.9 pounds! My last stop was at the Banks Lake Triple Fish Challenge and it was a huge success this year.
