The big news is that there are excellent catches of kokanee being made on Lake Chelan. My buddy Shane Magnuson and his friends put a total of 58 of them on his boat last Saturday. He was fishing near Mitchell Creek, which is above Kelly’s Resort on the far side of the lake. He was using a dodger and hoochie rig and many of the fish came from 80 feet or deeper. Here are a couple of items for your calendar. The first is the annual Central Washington Sportsmen’s Show in Yakima, coming up this weekend. The show starts on Friday the 20th and runs through Sunday at the Sundome. I will be there with the folks from Bob Feil Boats and Motors. Come by and see the new Kingfisher I will be driving this season. Also the annual tagged trout derby at Burke Lake, near Quincy is coming up on Saturday, March 7th. There will be one trout worth $2,000.00 and another worth $1,000.00 placed in the lake by the Quincy Valley Tourism Association. The QVTA will also pay $100.00 for every tagged trout caught on that Saturday. Hundreds of dollars worth of cash and prizes will also be awarded at the derby. The lake is ice-free and fishing should be very good for trout from 12 inches to 5 to 7 pounds.
