We’ve been waiting for it just like kids on Christmas morning and it’s finally here! Word came down Wednesday from the WDFW that Spring Chinook fishing is opening on the Icicle River today! The river near Leavenworth is open from the closure signs located 800 feet upstream of the mouth to 500 feet downstream of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery Barrier Dam. It’s also open from the closure signs located upstream of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery where Cyo Road would intersect the Icicle River at the Sleeping Lady Resort (RM 4.0) to the Icicle Peshastin Irrigation District footbridge approx. 750' upstream of the Snow Lakes trailhead parking area (RM 5.7). The daily limit is two hatchery chinook (adult or jack) minimum 12-inches. Adipose present spring chinook must be released unharmed and cannot be removed from the water prior to release. A night closure is in effect. There’s no gear restrictions other that the two pole endorsement does not apply to this fishery. If you’d like to see a great video we shot last year fishing spring chinook with Shane Magnuson of Upper Columbia Guide Service and buddy Dan Schleiffers, head to Dave’s website, www.fishingmagician.com. Until next time, “Good Fishing!”
