Trout fishing is Washington State is one of our most popular outdoor activities, and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has a way to make it even more fun. Once again they are conducting a statewide Fishing Derby that is free to everyone that has a valid license. It’s very easy to participate. Just fish any of the lakes where the department has released tagged rainbow. If you catch one, you are a winner! There is over $25,000.00 in prizes that will be handed out during the derby which starts on April 22nd and runs clear through October 31st. There are 900 tagged fish being released into 100 lakes across the state, so the odds of catching one are pretty good. Often you can claim your prize from a local sponsor. Be sure to keep your tag and to learn how to claim your prize just visit the WDFW’s web site at www.wdfw.wa.gov. Here you will find all the details about the derby, including the lakes that will have tagged trout. You can also call the department at 360-902-2462 to learn how to claim a prize at a local license dealer. It’s fun and it’s free—good luck!
