By Dave Graybill

This would be another great weekend to hit the lowland lakes that opened last weekend. There are plenty of rainbow left in the lakes for anglers. Success was pretty good throughout the region. If you would like to find out how people did you can access a list of lakes by county and see how many trout people kept, the size and some comments on how the opening day went. Just go to the department web site at www.dfw.wa.gov and enter a search on the Home Page. I just entered fish, creel, lowland and the page popped up. I already talked about the big trout I saw being caught at Jameson Lake last Saturday, and on Sunday I was most impressed with the size of the smallmouth that were being turned in at the Banks Lake Triple Fish Challenge. Most of the smallmouth were 3 pounds and bigger. The walleye fishing may be slow yet on Banks, but it looks like this would be the time to get after pre-spawn smallmouth. I believe most of the bass were caught on crank baits. Don’t be surprised if you catch some big rainbow trout when casting crank baits for bass this time of year on Banks.
