While I am arranging shuttle service, that means calling friends to get a ride to where my boat is tied up at Lake Wenatchee, I have taken the opportunity to fly fish a couple of the small streams in our area. I mentioned in an earlier report that the fishing is fantastic on the Icicle. It is still a bit high, but I was able to hop on some rocks and catch a bunch of little rainbow up there. Last Tuesday I drove up the Entiat River valley to a spot above the falls below Cottonwood. I found the river running a bit high for comfortable wading, but managed to make my way downstream through one of my favorite stretches. The fly fishing was amazing. I caught and released over 40 fish in about two hours of casting. Dominant in my catch were small rainbow of mostly 6- to 9-inches. I also caught a half-dozen brook trout of the same size. I was surprised how few cutthroat I caught. I got just one and it was number 13 that I released. I want to get back up there soon and look for some new water where I will find more cutthroat. I am sure there are more of them and there should be some bigger ones in there, too. A Parachute Adams and Parachute Hopper were favorites with the Entiat trout.
