By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Hope you and yours had a very Merry Christmas! I know I was certainly blessed to have an incredible Christmas. First, I was joined by my Dad and Mom and brother for the whole week. Second, we were able to go out hunting Saturday morning looking to fill my brother's cow elk tag for the Malaga Unit. And, as I've said hundreds of times, for us it's all about the hunt and not about the harvest. We were lucky enough to get an opportunity to hunt some private land where a herd of 40-plus elk had been the day before. We saw them, but they were on adjacent property unavailable to us. So we went for a drive and saw another herd near the junction of Colockum Pass Road and the Tarpiscan cutoff. While watching this bunch, we were approached by a complete stranger, offering us the chance to go on his property and that he'd chased a herd of 40-some out of his yard that morning. Sure enough, we found them and my brother placed an excellent 250-yard shot on a nice cow. What a Christmas! Until next time, Good Fishing!
