By Dave Graybill

The biggest weekend of the year is coming up. Memorial Weekend often sees the biggest crowds of RVs, boats and campers traveling from the west side of the mountains to Eastern Washington. They are coming to enjoy all the recreational fun that our region offers. There is plenty to go around. From the high desert of Grant and Spokane counties to the mix of pine forest and alpine highlands of Okanogan and Chelan counties, the east side of the state provides a setting to suit anyone’s preference. Not only are there many very well maintained State Parks, there are private resorts on our fishing destinations. I want to remind people that when they buy their fishing licenses for their first trip of the year, they should also purchase their Discovery Pass. The pass will be needed to park or camp at the State Parks, and if they plan to launch a boat, there is an additional fee. I also want to let everyone know that if you are over the age 62 you should buy a Golden Age Pass that is used at Federal Parks. If you buy one this year it means a significant savings. The price of passes will be going up as early as next year.
