By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. A roaming cougar caused quite a stir for residents in the Orondo area over the weekend. Now, it appears the cat was run over last night on Highway 97 near Orondo Park. Betsy Ray Irmer reported on Facebook that a cougar was seen Saturday night in the yard of her father’s house across from Orondo Park. She said they called the sheriff’s office, who reported it to the state patrol. Typically, the report shifts from the state patrol to State Department of Fish & Wildlife officers. Upon inspection Sunday, the tracks headed north through a cherry orchard and came out at Howes Landing Road. Now this morning, a dead cougar was found along State Route 97 near Orondo Park, which is assumed to be the same cat. Marvin Ray, an 84-year old Orondo orchardist, said a neighbor teenager came home after a basketball game Saturday night and saw the cougar in a tree near the highway. The youth ran home to get his father, who contacted Ray to investigate. WDFW Officer Will Smith says if you encounter a cougar, be sure to make yourself look big and make lots of noise. Until next time, Good Fishing!
