By Dave Graybill

Sometimes it’s not all about catching fish. My daughter Whitney came over for her annual summer visit earlier this week. We played the local putting course in Leavenworth in the morning, went tubing on the Wenatchee River in the afternoon, and had a very special dinner that evening. The next morning Whitney, my wife Eileen and I loaded up the Smokercraft and drove up to Alta Lake near Pateros. Whitney was excited to try a new lake and when I said there were big kokanee here, she was doubly glad we were going. We didn’t really get started fishing until almost eleven, and fishing was tough. It was already over 90 degrees. We did hook a few really big kokanee, but didn’t get them to the boat. When I switched to bass fishing, my electric pooped out, so we ended up tied to a float at the far end of the lake. We enjoyed splashing around in the cool water and just hanging out together. Don’t get me wrong, Whitney really likes to fish when she visits. We’ve had great trips to Banks and Chelan. Just relaxing with Dad was special, though. I didn’t send here home with fresh fish but it was fun.
