By Dave Graybill

My brother Rick and I traveled to The Dalles early this week to fish for walleye. We were invited down by Shane Magnuson, of Upper Columbia Guide Services, to join him and a couple of his clients that I have fished with previously. It was great to spend time on the water with Bob Hall and Roscoe Tolman again. We launched at Maryhill State Park at Biggs and ran up the Columbia to a spot that produced walleye for Shane the previous Saturday. We fished with jigs in 30 to 40 feet of water and picked up a fish before it was fully light. We thought we were in for a great day, and although we tried several other spots that had been good for Shane, we only got one more fish in the boat, but we missed a lot of hits. We started in the same place the next day in the same spot, but trolled spinners and Slow Death Hook rigs. We got a lot more bites, but still only got two fish to show for it. I want to get back down there to fish with Shane when the weather is more stable. Now is the time to get some really big walleye in this area.
