The annual CCA King of the Reach Derby on the Hanford Reach kicks off next week. It will be held on the weekend of Friday, October 26th through the 28th. This derby is the brain child of the Tri-Cities Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association. It is done in cooperation with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Grant County PUD. The goal of this derby is to catch as many wild fall Chinook as possible. The fish are kept in live wells and then delivered to shore to waiting trucks to be delivered to the Priest Rapids and Ringold Springs hatcheries. These fish are used as brookstock, which makes for healthier hatchery fish for the future. Everyone that enters gets a shot at a $1,000.00 prize package that includes a Green Mtn. Grill Wi-Fi BBQ, a TFO fishing rod and more. This is really a fun derby and the Tri-Cities CCA Chapter does a great job running it. To learn more about it and even register for the event, just do a Google search for “King of the Reach 2018” and you find what you need. I would encourage anyone who has the time to participate.
