By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Everybody has their favorite spot. Whether its that hole on the river only you know where it is, or that perfect spot on the lake where fish always hit, you feel like it's your spot. For me, I have a few of these spots for hunting. I made my way to one of those spots Saturday morning for the modern firearm elk season opener. It's a spot where as soon as you get there it just FEELS like elk. I call it my spot, but by the looks of the three other trucks that were parked in the pre-dawn dark, it was quickly apparent this is OTHER people's spot too. There's an old cat road that cuts through the bottom of a draw that leads to the open expanse of the hills above. It's a pretty easy hike uphill and within a half-mile, you're in THE spot. Scanning the local plates on the vehicles assembled, I knew there were at least five other hunters heading to MY spot. So I called an audible and worked off the ridge line west of the rest and soon stood 60-yards from two bull elk. Only one problem...more Thursday. Until next time, Good Fishing!
