I want to remind people about a couple events that are coming up soon. The first is the 10th Annual Coastal Conservation Banquet and Auction that is coming up on Friday, April 19th this year. It will be held at the Wenatchee Eagles Lodge, at 1208 N. Wenatchee Ave., and the doors will open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $65, which includes a one-year membership in CCA. On Saturday, April 20th is an event that is near and dear to my heart. It’s the annual Kids Free Fishing Day at the Pitt Pond in Rock Island. I started this event about 20 years ago, and thanks to the volunteers from the Wenatchee Sportsmen’s Association and folks in the Rock Island community it is still going strong. The pond is always loaded with hungry trout for the event, and the Wenatchee Sportsmen are on hand with tackle and bait for the kids to use. There are free hot dogs, snacks and sodas for everyone, thanks to the local community. The event is usually scheduled from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. and you can call the city of Rock Island at (509)886-1261 to be sure.
