I had a great day on Tuesday. I launched the new Kingfisher 2025 Escape on Billy Clapp and got a chance to see if it was “fishy”. Oh yeah, it did great. My brother-in-law Tom Verschueren came along on this shake down outing. We started trolling just above the basalt island and got bit before the second rod was even out. We were trolling floating Rapalas on side planers on the side rods and flat lining the same lures out the back. The trout fishing was great the last time we fished Billy Clapp and this time it was even better. The fish we landed were 15 to 16 inches and very deep bodied and full of fight. When we got several in the cooler, I pulled in the two side rods and ran out Kokabow blades and spinners on the down riggers. I wanted to see if we could find some kokanee on Billy Clapp. Within minutes one of the rods bounced and we reeled in a fat 13-inch kokanee. We filled our limit of trout on the Kokabow gear but couldn’t get another kokanee. I will be trying Billy Clapp for kokanee again later on. Now I know they’re in there.
