By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Happy 76th birthday to my Dad, Dave Granstrom. It's crazy! I vividly remember as a kid thinking 76 was ancient. I'm sure Dad never figured when he was young that he'd make it this many times around the sun. He grew up the son of a logger in the sticks of eastern Skagit County. He still lives on the family property that was a logging deed back in the 1800's. Growing up in the Finn Settlement, Dad literally learned to hunt and fish right out the door of his house. He told me of a story when he was 12 and woke up to find a buck standing out the kitchen window. Without telling his mother, he loaded his 30.06 and shot it out the window. Scared his poor mother half to death but got an excused absence from school because he had to hang the deer up in the chicken house. Thankfully, it was in this same place where he moved me and my family when I was 12 to learn about the great outdoors by being in it all the time. Happy Birthday Dad and thanks for teaching me. Until next time, Good Fishing!
