By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Several years ago, Dave asked me to cover for him while he was leading a fishing expedition to Mexico. I agreed before I knew the details of what he wanted me to cover. Turns out that Dave wanted me to head north just outside of Oroville to cover the Northwest Ice Fishing Festival in Molson, Washington. After my initial shock, I thought it would be a great adventure for me and Dad, since neither of us had ever ice fished. So we made reservations at the Camaray Motel and headed north. Molson is a ghost town in Okanogan County, not far from the Canadian border. The population vacillates, but if you go to the Ice Fishing Festival, you're going to meet all of them. And, they're the nicest folks you'll ever meet. After filling up on a big breakfast in the Grange Hall, we drug our sled full of gear onto the ice at Sidley Lake, just northwest of town. Thankfully, the gang at Hooked On Toys set us up with an ice auger, rods, bait...the whole works. No one caught a single fish, but we sure had fun. The 15th version of the festival is this Saturday. Until next time, Good Fishing!
