By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Marion and I hooked up the Lund for another new adventure over the weekend, pointing the bow towards Cle Elum Lake. Marion had camped there several times but I'd never been there and had heard Kokanee could be caught. After a cozy fire on Forest Service land Friday night and good night's sleep in our truck tent, we were on the water by 6:30 Saturday morning. It being a new body of water, I spent nearly an hour just slowly driving around, watching the fish finder and also figuring out the lake's depths. I knew it was full of stumps and didn't want to hang up a downrigger ball. We finally saw what looked to be a promising blip on the screen and put the gear out. Three hours later, we finally caught our first fish, a Kokanee about 9-inches long and skinny. We worked hard the rest of the day until the winds came up in the afternoon, blowing us off the lake, and that one fish was the only one for the day. Cle Elum is gorgeous with the surrounding timber, but there's no protection. There are plenty of other places to catch fish. Until next time, Good Fishing!
