By Eric Granstrom

For FishiingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Marion and I took the Lund to Billy Clapp Lake last weekend. We didn't get rods in the water Saturday night until about 7. I wanted to target Kokanee, so I was busily preparing to stack four rods on the downriggers at 10-foot intervals from 30 to 60 feet. As I began the descent of the second rod, the upper came loose from the clip and just as I was about to curse myself for not setting it right, a fish came bursting to the surface and the rod tip was jerking violently. Fish on! As Marion grabbed the net, I reeled with the fish running and pulling line, cartwheeling into the air and splashing about. Just as we got it to the boat, it dove under the stern and smacked the main motor. The hook came out of its mouth and Marion and I were left panting and puffing, laughing and lamenting about the incredible fight and how big the fish was. I quickly switched my approach and changed to orange Rapalas trolling just under the surface. That night we caught 5 and the next morning another 10 big, beautiful, bright rainbow trout. Until next time, Good Fishing!
