By Dave Graybill

Well I got down to Potholes, after a delay due to high winds. After picking up my fishing buddy Brian Nielson, I chose to launch at Blithe, which is between Mar Don Resort and the State Park. This may not have been a good idea. The water was very low, but I managed to get the boat off the trailer and pick Brian up from a flat rock near the shore. We were both surprised by the number of boats we saw at the launch site and then out on the water last Saturday. I guess it was because it was such a nice, calm day, not that the fishing was so great. We did talk to one boat that had caught three walleye, but most people were mostly hunting for fish. We did have some action, though, catching one walleye, two largemouth bass, three big bluegill, some whopper perch and four catfish. I really wanted to find some crappie, and even though we found some submerged habitat boxes we just didn’t locate any schools of crappie. We are going to give it another shot, though. I wouldn’t recommend launching at Blithe now, if your boat is a 20 footer like mine.
