By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Wow! Nice fish! What did you use? That's a question any angler who's had success will hear, or read if they post a photo of a fat fish on social media. I was able to catch three nice rainbow trout at Billy Clapp Lake Monday, the largest of which 2-pounds. Which I threw on the grill last night and ate. It was like eating salmon! The flesh was incredibly dark colored when I filleted it. So even though I caught only three, they were well worth the trip. OK, back to how I caught them. It was an accident. Seriously! I was trying to catch kokanee. I was using my kokanee gear, which included Kokabow blades and Mack's Lure hoochies, some shoepeg corn died pink with Graybill's Guide Scent Kokanee Formula. I put the gear back 40-pulls behind the boat and went down to 40-feet on one downrigger and 30 on the other. I was trolling around the basalt island and caught two on two passes. The big one was caught trolling a Rapala Original Floating Minnow gold and florescent red on the opposite side of the lake along a basalt wall. Until next time, Good Fishing!
