By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. I could hear it in his voice. Something was missing. It didn't dawn on me until I hung up the phone with him last night. Dad was heading to deer camp in Winthrop this weekend and I wasn't planning on joining him. The sound in his voice was disappointment. We are just coming off a great archery elk hunt. He was drawn for the multi-season deer tag, so he's joining family on our property in Winthrop to hunt our usual stomping grounds. We have archery tags for a quality deer hunt in the Entiat the end of November, so I wasn't planning to hunt this weekend. But then it came to me, I have both a bear and cougar tag in my pocket. There's no reason I can't grab my Browning .308 and head up to deer country looking for a carnivore while Dad and the gang seek some ungulates. In fact, years ago hunting our favorite saddle, I jumped a beautiful cinnamon-colored black bear that evaded me before I could get my rifle up. I just got off the phone with Dad and I can hear the smile in his voice. Until next time, Good Hunting!
