Today, I am on Lake Roosevelt chasing giant kokanee. I haven’t been able to get up to Roosevelt for a while. There are a couple of reasons that I am excited about this trip. First of all, I will be fishing with Alan Greenbaugh, owner of Kokabow Fishing Tackle. He has traveled here from Meridian, Idaho at the invitation of a fan of his gear from Cashmere. His buddy has a 5th wheel and boat he keeps at the RV Park at the top of hill in Keller. I have known Alan for over 5 years, and this is the first time we’ve been on the water together. The other reason that I am looking forward to this trip is that the lake level on Roosevelt is finally dropping. This usually draws the daphnia that the kokanee feed on down into the lower reaches of the reservoir, and fishing for both kokanee and rainbow trout really improves. It looks like we will be dealing with some high winds, but I hope we can find some calmer water down around the corner from Keller. Look for my report for Monday and in the Exchange newspaper to learn how we did.
