For the past eighteen years the little town of Molson, which is near Oroville, has hosted the Northwest Ice Fishing Festival. Thanks to the many area sponsors that contribute to the event it continues to provide a wonderful day of fun for those who participate. This year the festival will be held on Saturday, January 15th, to take advantage of the three day weekend. Fishing is the focus and Molson Lake has continued to produce more fish each year. Last year the lake produced the most trout since 2015. Anglers will be out on the lake as early as 6 a.m., but many wait to partake in the famous Molson Grange Pancake Breakfast from seven till ten. The Veranda Beach Diner will be keeping the kitchen open for post breakfast eats. Everyone will gather at the Grange at 4:30 for the awards ceremonies, and there will be lots of raffle items available. The event not only provides families with a fun day, but the proceeds will also help replace the aerator that helps preserve the health of Molson Lake. I have been to the festival and it’s a great example of a small community that turns out to make sure everyone has a wonderful experience.
