By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Marion and I spent the holiday weekend at my family's property in Winthrop. We arrived Friday evening and were up at 5am Saturday, towing the boat through downtown Winthrop on our way to Pearrygin Lake. I was surprised to find not a single boat on the water as we entered the west gate of the State Park. There was no one at the launch and just a couple kids fishing off the dock nearby. The Lowrance fish-finder screen was loaded with fish as we set the downriggers out and began trolling. Soon enough, we had our first of probably at least 40-fish on for the morning. It was fast and furious with a triple on two occasions. While it was fun, the fish were all pretty small...about 6 to 8-inches. We finally called it quits when I got a text that my sister and her fiance were in camp. We spent the rest of the weekend eating like kings and ducking from one rain shower after another. If you have a young child or grandchild who is new to fishing, I'd suggest a trip to Pearrygin. They'll have success and be hooked for life. Until next time, Good Fishing!
