By Dave Graybill

It will be interesting to learn just how many sockeye were caught so far, after the first weekend of the season on Lake Wenatchee. Angler success is very high and the number of sockeye making their way up Tumwater Canyon to the lake is slowing down. If you haven’t had a chance to get in on the action on Lake Wenatchee, better hurry. I would also keep a close eye on the WDFW web site to see if there any new announcements about the season. Everyone knew it would be a short season, and it is a day-to-day deal. If this fishery closes, no big deal, it was fun while it lasted, but there is plenty of other fishing available to us. I am always torn between fishing on the upper Columbia for kings and fly fishing the small streams this time of year. I have already had some great afternoons on the Icicle and am eager to get to the upper Entiat. I plan to fish the Methow River soon, and I also want to explore some new small streams this year. If you haven’t tried fly fishing, this is a great time to get some gear and splash around in one of our area’s small rivers. It’s a great way to cool off and the action is hot!
