People looking forward to the opening day of lowland lake trout fishing should be excited about the prospects for this year’s opener. There are some great opportunities for fast action on this year’s opener in Chelan County. Close to the town of Wenatchee, there are several lakes that provide local anglers very good fishing. Clear Lake would be a good bet for opening weekend. The lake is small, just five acres in size, but received 4,500 catchable size rainbow prior to the opener, and 125, 2- to 3-pound fish to spice the action. Last spring the WDFW planted 1,000 tiger trout fingerlings in Clear Lake, too, and they should be showing up as good-sized carryovers this season. One of the more popular lakes, Beehive Reservoir, is often not accessible for opening weekend. Due to its elevation the roads prevent stocking this early. Last year the fishing was delayed by at least a week. Beehive is worth the wait, though. It will be planted with 8,000 catchable rainbow and 100, 2- to 3-pound fish, when the trucks can get to it. Beehive was also planted with tiger trout last spring. Also in the Wenatchee Heights is Spring Hill Reservoir, and will be productive this year, too.
