Good news for anglers that have been looking forward to the new Trout Derby in the Quincy Wildlife Area on Saturday, March 5th. Quincy Valley Tourism has decided to proceed with the Derby, with some adjustment. They are confident that Burke Lake will be ice-free enough to conduct the Derby, but Quincy Lake is iffy. In order to comply with the regulations on derbies from the Department of Fish and Wildlife, they will be planting two tagged fish in Burke Lake for the Derby. One fish will have a value of $3,000.00 and the other a value of $1,000.00. If Quincy Lake is in fact more than 50 percent ice-free by Saturday, the 5th, they will put tagged fish in there, too, and conduct the Derby as originally planned. I have also learned that there will be a prize for the biggest trout caught by a Derby-registered adult angler, which will be a Traeger barbeque. The biggest trout caught for the youth division will be a custom made fly rod. The organizers will also be providing me with a more complete list of other prizes that will be handed out, including one for the tagged “mystery” fish. Look forward to seeing you there!
