By Dave Graybill

Fishing for Chinook salmon and sockeye on the main stem Columbia River in Brewster is about as good as it gets, although more and more of these fish are showing up daily. I heard that there were 1,000 sockeye taken on the opener at week ago. All the more reason to attend the seminars in Pateros this Friday at the Center Building. The doors will open at 5 p.m. for the optional dinner and beer and wine will be available. The seminars on fishing for Chinook and sockeye on the Brewster Pool will start at 6 p.m. Local guides, Ron Oules and Jerrod Gibbons are the presenters. If you want to have the best success fishing for Chinook and sockeye this season, better get to these seminars. For more information call Howards’s on the River at 509-923-9555. Don’t forget that the CCA Wenatchee Salmon Derby is coming up on July 17th and 18th. There are a lot of fish in this stretch of the Columbia this year so fishing should be great. To get all the details on this derby to www.wenatcheesalmonderby.com. I also just learned of a new sockeye derby on Saturday, July 25th. The rules are available on the CCA NCW Wenatchee Facebook page.
