This is the time of year that many anglers put the tackle box and rods and reels in a corner of the garage and forget about fishing until the spring. Boy, are these people missing out. Some of the best fishing that you can imagine happens right now. There are people that travel from all over the country and some from all over the world to visit our area to fish for steelhead. If you haven’t fished for steelhead on the Columbia River or the Methow or Okanogan you just don’t know what you are missing. Steelhead are one of the most spectacular fish you can catch, anywhere. The trout fishing this time of year on the year-round waters can be terrific. There are many lakes that are open throughout the region and some of the biggest fish are taken in the fall and winter. Lake Roosevelt trout fishing is just plain amazing, and throw in the chance to catch some of the biggest kokanee in the state it is well worth the effort. We have one of the best winter fly fishing streams that you will find anywhere. Rocky Ford Creek regularly produces rainbow that are bigger than most anglers catch in a lifetime of trout fishing. This is not the time to put away the fishing tackle. Winter fishing in Central Washington can be outstanding. Bundle up and get out and do it!
