By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. When I was a senior in high school, my sister was a freshman. Of the three of us kids, Sonja probably was the most athletic. She played volleyball and softball and I tried to get her to play golf. It was 1986 and I could see the world of women's golf growing in the future and it would be a great way for her to get a scholarship. Nope. She wouldn't do it. She said "golf is dumb!" Now, a high schooler can fish and earn a scholarship. Cohen and Kyle Stentz are from the Wenatchee Valley and are the Washington State High School Bass Fishing Champions. They'll be headed to the High School Bass Fishing Nationals at Lake Hartwell, in Anderson, South Carolina, where they will compete against the best high school teams in the nation for college scholarships and the national title. Cohen and Kyle are cousins and Cohen's Dad Cody says this is a rather new avenue for kids to go to college. He says, "it's an opportunity for kids who are not otherwise interested in school sports to go to college." Congrats to the Stentz boys and good luck. Until next time, Good Fishing!
