I am not going to wait for the lowland lakes to open this Saturday, I am going to fish Billy Clapp on Thursday. My buddy James Lebow and I usually fish this lake, which is about 16 miles east of Soap Lake, two or three times a year. Right now, we expect to catch rainbow, because Billy Clapp is loaded with them. Trout averaging 16 inches are common in the lake and sometimes we land a couple in the 3- to 5-pound class. We will be trolling plugs like jointed Rapalas and Flicker Shads flatlined behind the boat. Sometimes we use side planners but most often they aren’t necessary. We also take some walleye gear with us. There is a good population of walleye in Billy Clapp and we usually fish at the top end. There is a good spot just below the dam at Summer Falls that holds walleye, but it is very snaggy. I am going to take some heavy jigs on this trip to see if we can get them without trolling with bottom walkers. Later in the season we will go back to try for kokanee. There are some big ones in Billy Clapp.
