I had a great week last week. Got to do some things that I don’t often do. On Wednesday I floated the Yakima River through the canyon south of Ellensburg. The very high winds that were forecast didn’t develop until very late in the afternoon, so our party was able to enjoy a beautiful float and a wonderful shore lunch along the way. We were the guests of the Canyon River Ranch, which has a beautiful lodge that opened last August. It is really something; true luxury in the scenic canyon. Our host guide was Doug Pendleton, who is Director of Special Programs at Red’s Fly Shop. He puts together instructional courses on fly-fishing, which are particularly attractive to women that are just learning the sport. He showed us what it takes to catch fish this time of year on the Yakima and when we took a quick break in the middle of the float, prepared a great shore lunch. This is something that clients at Red’s can expect. It’s first class all the way with this operation. Unfortunately, there was a heck of a rain storm the night before our trip and although the water level was fine, the water was very muddy and the trout just couldn’t see our flies.
