Lake Lenore, near Soap Lake can be popular with fly anglers—that’s when it’s good. It has a reputation for being an excellent fall fishery for big Lahontan cutthroat, but has been a disappointment the past couple of years. I did get a good report on the fishing at Lenore, and now I’m planning a trip to the lake. According to my source, the fishing isn’t red hot, but it’s very good. Anglers trolling the south end of the lake are catching cutthroat of good size. They are running from 19 to 24 inches for the most part, but there have been cutts even larger taken so far this fall. The last time I fished Lenore in the fall it was with chironomids below an indicator, but I hear Wooly Bugger patterns are working the best here now. Full sinking lines or sink tip lines are an advantage, too. Lenore is just north of Soap Lake on the highway to Park and Blue lakes and there are accesses at the bottom, middle and top end of the lake. This is a selective gear rule lake, with a one fish daily limit. Motorized boats are not allowed. See your game regs for closed water boundaries.
