I got some good news recently that anglers that fish for Chinook in the upper Columbia can appreciate. I reported earlier that the forecast for our summer run had been downgraded substantially. I learned that this number was for the Columbia River and not our area specifically. The reason for the reduction in the forecast was for the fish expected to return to the Snake River system was way off this year, but our fish are still coming back in very robust numbers. It is evident that fishing for summer runs in our region has been excellent and will continue to be for the next month at least. Fish are in very good condition this year. They arrived a little later than usual and water temperatures have been cooler than normal. The summer run Chinook being taken from the Columbia in our region are prime for the barbeque. Those that have been fortunate to have the opportunity to fish for these summer runs and sockeye are filling their freezers with some of the best salmon anyone could find on the upper river. I want to remind anglers to consider fishing areas other than below Wells Dam the week of the 20th, due to high flows.
