The first annual CCA Wenatchee River Salmon Derby is just a week away, and I hope you have your tickets. Summer run salmon numbers over Rock Island Dam are climbing daily, and if trends follow those of last year they are about to really spike. I expect summer run salmon to be passing over Rock Island to hit over a thousand a day when the derby starts on July 13th. Fishing for kings should be very good and there will be tons of sockeye coming through, too. To get ticket information, log onto www.wenatcheesalmonderby.com. I want to remind anglers that when you buy your ticket you will be getting an annual membership in the Coast Conservation Association. If you are already a member you ticket will be discounted the membership fee of $25.00. The ticket gets you into the derby and a chance to win some of the over $10,000.00 in cash and prizes, and a dinner on Sunday afternoon. Salmon fishing in the Wenatchee area is always good this time of year. The derby participants should enjoy good catches of up river bright kings, and have the added benefit of the fun of the derby. Hope you can be the part of the first of many CCA derbies to come.
