I thought we might see some changes in the fishing rules on fall salmon season, given the huge number of fish coming to our area, and sure enough there is good news for anglers. Those who enjoy fishing in the Hanford Reach will now be able to keep three adult salmon in this area. Stated more exactly anglers may retain six salmon, three of which may be adults. Fishing has been very good in this stretch of the Columbia River and it will get even better right until the season closure on October, 22nd. Also, anglers may retain six Chinook, two of which may be adults from Wanapum Dam to Rocky Island Dam until October 15th, and it doesn’t matter whether they are adipose fin clipped or not. This opens a lot of river to anglers to catch unclipped fish. To get all the details on these changes and others always check the WDRF web site. I have been watching the steelhead counts, and although they have been running behind in reporting, I know there has been close to 11,000 over Priest Rapids Dam, with more on the way. We are getting a large number of wild fish again this year, and I expect to see another split season.
