By Dave Graybill

Well, I made my trip to Rufus Woods and tried fishing from shore. I started at the new public access just above the dam. I was surprised to see how much current there was here. I almost packed some drift gear, but didn’t and that was a big mistake. I was able to get my sinkers to hold here, but I can see that I would have been much better off drifting some Corkies, lures or bait through here. I would have covered more water and could have really worked the hole rather than waiting for a fish to show up, and no fish did. There were no anglers fishing from shore at the Fisher Road access, so I headed up to Brandts Landing, which is six miles from the Fisher Road turnoff. It was much more comfortable here, no wind and much warmer. No bites, but I did see one roll near where I had cast my bait. I went back down to the fishing area near the launch and checked a boat that had come off the water. They didn’t have any fish either. Things are about to take a change for the better on Rufus Woods, though. Be sure to read my report for Friday to see what I mean.
