By Dave Graybill

I mentioned in an earlier report that I had been in the Columbia River Gorge fishing for steelhead and salmon. I fly fished the Klickitat River and got a couple of steelhead and the next day got three nice kings fishing with Herb Good off the mouth of the White Salmon River. The next day I fished with Austin Moser, of Austin’s Northwest Adventures, off the mouth of the Klickitat on the Columbia. Eric Granstrom and I were with the staff of Grays Harbor Unders, a company that makes under layer clothing for outdoor use that you will be hearing more about later. Moser was trying a new method, which was trolling Super Baits and flashers with 10-ounce dropper weights. Turned out this is not only very effective it is a very fun way to fish. Everyone on the boat got a fish, and I hooked one that took 220 feet of line off the line counter reel before I could get it turned around. These were all up river brights and full of fight. Moser has now moved his operation to the Hanford Reach and I am sure he will be trying this method while fishing at Vernita.
