One of my favorite things to do each fall is to attend the Wenatchee River Salmon Festival in Leavenworth. The event takes place at the National Fish Hatchery and the hatchery grounds are transformed into a festive, colorful educational fair. This is something that the kids really will enjoy, and so will mom and dad. This is the 25th anniversary of Salmon Fest and in addition to the many traditional activities there are special things planned for this year. Salmon Fest began as a celebration of the life cycle of salmon, which is so important to our region and particularly the Native Americans that continue to keep salmon an primary element in their culture. The Native American Village is a big feature of Salmon Fest. There are hands on activities for the kids and performances on the main stage that the whole family will enjoy. This event, that will keep you busy all day, is free. It is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th this year. Be sure to mark your calendar and plan on attending. I haven’t missed Salmon Festival in many years. Learn all about it by logging onto salmonfest.org.
