One of the best community winter festivals in the region is the annual NW Ice Fishing Festival in Molson, which is near Oroville, Washington. It will be held on Saturday, January 14th. This will be the 13th annual event and is sponsored by the Oroville Chamber and Hosted by the Molson Grange. The fishing takes place on nearby Molson and Sidley lakes. I have attended the festival a couple of times and have had a great time. The ice fishing derby is from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. When I wasn’t out on the ice fishing for a prize winning trout, I was hanging around the Grange Hall. Here you can get an amazing breakfast for eight bucks, a great lunch and even play bingo to pass the time until the prizes are handed out. This year the Grand Prize is worth $1,000.00. Half is paid in cash and the balance in a gift card at the new Country Store. The whole community of Molson turns out to make sure everyone has a wonderful time. This would be a terrific way to spend the Saturday of the Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend, and explore The Highlands of the very north of Central Washington.
