By Dave Graybill

I mentioned in earlier reports that I was going to give Long Lake, down by Othello, a try for walleye. Brian Muller, of Moses Lake, was going to show me the ropes and just how good the walleye fishing could be. He was right, the fishing was very good, and am I glad I had someone to show me the way around down there. There aren’t a lot of serious hazards to be aware of, but he did point out a few and I can now go there myself and find my way around safely. We started at Long Lake proper, and caught fish just a short distance from the launch. We then traveled through the canal down to Crescent Lake, which can only be reached by boat for walleye anglers. We found very good fishing at Crescent Lake, and then fished out way back to Long Lake, drifting a few spots in the canal itself. I had never fished anything like the canal and it was terrific. We wound up with five 16- to 20-inch keepers, releasing at least 20 fish. I fed about three dozen crawlers to walleye. Had a heck of time hooking them on this trip.
