Steelhead fishing remains pretty slow on the main stem Columbia River and the Wenatchee so far this season. The bright spot in our region has been the Methow. In fact, fishing has been so good that there were rumors circulating that the river was going to close to fishing soon, very soon. However, success has moderated to the point that it looks like the river will remain open another couple of weeks, and could possibly make it all the way through the month of November. This will depend on the amount of pressure the river gets and the success rate of anglers. If the Methow does close, the main stem Columbia would also close from Wells Dam to the Highway 173 Bridge at Brewster. The fishing for steelhead in the Pateros area has improved slightly. There is very little angler pressure here, but those who are willing to stick it out and work hard could have decent results. Shane Magnuson is able to scratch out an average of six fish a day, with about half being hatchery fish, drifting bobbers and jigs below the mouth of the Methow. Some really cold weather would help everyone out this steelhead season.
