If you were worried about getting to fish the Methow River for steelhead before it closed, you should still have some time. I hear that the plan is now to keep the river open to fishing through Thanksgiving weekend. However, this will depend on the amount of pressure the river gets between now and then and the success rate of anglers. My last visit to the area saw very little pressure elsewhere, but I didn’t survey the Methow. It has been the consistent producer so far this season. I am hoping that the cooler weather will get the bite going on the other rivers, like the Wenatchee and Okanogan. I suspect that local anglers had pretty fair fishing on the opening day and first weekend on the Similkameen, but after that it probably slowed down. I have had a few reports of fair fishing on Rufus Woods at the bottom end, above Chief Joseph Dam. Anglers have been trolling flies along the barrier or along the opposite shore for mostly regular rainbow, with a few triploids salted in. I want to get up there myself and give it a try. I am hoping for lots of action, not necessarily big fish.
