By Dave Graybill

I am so excited about steelhead season that I just have to go whenever I get the chance. I know the water temperatures are really too warm for great fishing, but I know that if you can find fish you should be able to get a couple. Last Friday my wife Eileen and I put the boat in at Chelan Falls and tried two spots here without success. I then ran up the river to another really good hole and we didn’t get a bite on our bobber and jig rigs here either. I noticed that we were low on fuel so we ran into Chelan, gassed up and then headed to Wells Dam. Two anglers were just leaving and although they complained about how slow the fishing was, they still got six including two keepers. We put the boat in below the dam and drifted the bar. Eileen lost a good fish on our first pass. That was the only bite on a jig so I switched to Mag Lip 3.5 plugs. I got a hit on our first drift and then lost one way down below and around the corner. I know there are fish out there and I am going to keep going until I find some biters.
